Kalamata Olives are oneĀ of the most familiar and popular olivesĀ and are highly valued for their fruit and oil.

Kalamata treesĀ have an upright spreading habit, with beautiful evergreenĀ  , grey/green foliage and producesĀ masses of creamy white flowers in spring, followed byĀ medium-large, oval shaped fruit that ripens from green toĀ dark-purple/black during summer and autumn.Ā Kalamata is a very popular gourmet variety and areĀ a great addition to salads, grazing plates and Mediterranean style dishes.Ā 

Kalamata olive trees are native to the Mediterranean and are hardy and tolerantĀ of dry conditions and full sun.Ā  TheyĀ grow successfully in Tasmania as they also tolerate cold weather.Ā They prefer aĀ full sun to partly shaded position in the gardenĀ and will tolerate light frost when mature. BetterĀ suited to colder regions than Manzanillo.

Perfect for use as a shade tree, fruit treeĀ or foliage plantĀ and will tolerateĀ most conditions including coastal plantings and poor soil situations.Ā TheyĀ look sensational as a feature tree in the garden and are equally fabulous in large pots orĀ wine barrels. You can even grow them indoors as they're tolerant of dry air and dry soil, making it aĀ very adaptable house plant.Ā
